Nuzhia- Mini Kanun = The “Small Stroll” of Mohamed Khoudir, Berlin 2016
The name recalls the Arab instrument “Nuzha”, a larger rectangular zither with 108 strings, which was
introduced by Safi al-Din Abd al-Mu’min ibn Yusuf ibn Fakhir al-Urmawi al-Baghdadi in the 13th
century.


The name Nuzhia is a smaller version of Nuzha and means small stroll (Arabic nuzhia = small stroll).
And has 19 individually strings. 2 octaves .and Quint
A mini qanun, Small Rectangular and light zither.
similar to the Kanun / al-Qanun a trapezoidal zither with 78 strings.
The bridge stands on parchment (as eardrum)
This results in a characteristic sound.
This instrument is strung with nylon strings and wound strings.

The instrument is played with the lying depths side against the body; you can sit on a chair, and the
Nuzhia on your knees or in front of you on the table .. It can also be played on the floor.
The Nuzhia is plucked with a plectrum made of horn / plastic or metal, which are inserted as thimbles to
the forefinger.


Nuzhia is suitable for modulating. These small, side-mounted on the strings trains levers / Tuners
intonation can be adjusted during the playing on the desired fine tuning. It has a 24-tone mood within
the seven page trains per octave.
